The more things change, the more they stay the same

This article about the upcoming agendafor the general synod meeting of The Church of England once again has me bemused about what these religious folks think is important

I confess that I am not a follower of their particular lunacy but the continued use of the bible to promote discrimination just highlights what these people really care about.

Power, intolerance and exclusion

"it is wrong for women to have authority over men in a religious capacity."
"Another sensitive subject to be discussed at the General Synod, which is held every two years, is homosexuality."

"The Church of England disapproves of the remarriage of divorced people in church except under special circumstances."

From this article it is apparent that the main issues some of these people think are important is the denial of any official status of women (based on gender), the sexual orientation of church members ( homosexuals not neccessarily welcome) and finally whether or not 2 divorced people in love may get married (never mind 2 gay people)

Wow and I thought there were more important issues out there like feeding the poor, helping those less fortunate than us and making sure everyone has access to basic healthcare.

I guess I should take SOME solace in the fact that they are at least considering female bishops, and the do have at least ONE gay bishop and Charles and Camilla are going ahead with their wedding, but the fact that THESE issues remain on their agenda means there is much work to be done. The conservative element still holds considerable power and if this article is to be believed that power is growing.

It's a matter of priorities people ... what are yours?
