Christians demand that everyone else be tolerant of their beliefs. They basically tell the rest of us to sit back and shut up while they ram their faith in our faces. Don't believe me?
When atheists in the US complained about god in the pledge of alleigance they were told to omit the word. When we complain about prayer in schools or council meetings, we are told to leave the room. They don't seem to understand or they refuse to understand that the very presence of the word or the act of the prayer is the offense.
I don't oppose the use of the word god in the proper setting and I don't have a problem with prayer either. I just have a problem with prayer being forced on people or centering out people when they are in a situation that compels their presence such as in school or a public event. One religion should not be elevated over all other belief systems. It just makes good sense and good neighbours. You don't force your beliefs on me and I won't force mine on you. Prohibiting prayer in school or in government does not infringe on your right to practice your faith. It merely prevents you from advertising your faith and outing mine. You are free to practice your faith on your own time and in your own home or church. If you want to pray at school you can, you just have to do it for yourself instead of making everyone else listen. You want to pray before a meeting you can just don't make everyone else play along. It's not right and it's not fair to otherwise.
Which brings me to the reason for this post. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Mathew 6:5 -6:6
The story link I posted above is one you should read. The woman in question wanted to practice her faith. It might not be your faith but it IS hers. To fire her for requesting unpaid leave to observe her holy days is beyond the pale imo. If they happened to be busy at a particular time they could have denied her request. To continually deny it would be unreasonable but to fire her for ASKING is unpardonable.
If christians really want people to cut them some slack then they are going to have to learn how to reciprocate first.
