New Pope condemns Spain gay bill
Pope Benedict XVI has responded firmly to the first challenge of his papacy by condemning a Spanish government bill allowing marriage between homosexuals. So at least we now know where he stands ... well some of us already knew, but now we ALL know. His campaign against those who differ from his strict and narrow view of the world will invariably suffer his wrath, whether they are Catholic or not. His prejudice and intolerance will be cloaked in the mantle of religious righteousness which I guess makes it ok for some but I think ultimately it will be doomed to failure. People are gonna do what people are gonna do and the church is increasingly becoming irrelevant.
The bill, passed by parliament's Socialist-dominated lower house, also allows gay couples to adopt.

He said Roman Catholic officials should be prepared to lose their jobs rather than co-operate with the law.
Strict theologians argue that it is not the place of the church to change their doctrine to appease the masses. They continue to insist that their flock conform to the church not the church to the flock.
What I think the Catholic church fails to realize tho is that this position to resist changing with the times is what doomed so many religions that preceeded them. They will eventually become so irrelevant to the very people that support them, that their power will fail, their influence decline and their continued existance will be in jeopardy.
That isn't a bad thing. It's evolution ... evolution of faith. If the Catholic Church fails to evolve it will cease to be, or at least cease to be the power that it currently is. I don't think it will happen in my lifetime, but it will happen. So they can continue their protests against gay marriage and gay unions, contraception, womens rights, abortion etc. eventually their failure is certain. History speak for itself ..... I take some perverse pleasure in knowing that.
