Press reacts to Axworthy Letter

Zander over at The Daily Kos has an updated diary commenting on the reaction to the Lloyd Axworthy open letter to Condi regarding BMD. You can find the Diary here

I did a google news search for Lloyd Axworthy a day after the story broke on Kos and found no mention of the letter anywhere. Over the weekend I repeated the search and found a few smaller sites were starting to pick up on the letter. Maybe a handful at most. Today I did it again and see that CBC has also picked it up. The Winnipeg Free Press article (*paid subscription required) that Zander points to and reproduces in his diary mentions Commondreams.org among others carrying the story and apparently Lloyd has been inundated with media interview requests.

It appears that when someone from the left gets annoyed enough to speak truth to power all heck breaks out. It's like a fresh breath of wind sweeping away the smog of deceit. I look forward to many more stiff breezes in the coming days.

[UPDATE} I was just revisiting the Kos diary on this subject when I saw this post from the Winnipeg Free Press editor. Now while I cannot confirm that the poster IS the editor, the post does seem to make me inclined to believe that this is the real deal. I am reposting his comment here for your convenience.

Posted this on your first diary, so might as well repeat here.

I am the WFP editor who commissioned the Dear Condi piece from Lloyd. He writes for our View from the West commentary pages, and I asked him to write on the BMD decision and the currently crisp state of US-Canada relations.

Response to the piece, from both sides of the border, has been unprecedented. His office, and our newsroom, have been inundated with emails.

Lloyd has now agreed to write a folo to the piece for View on Thursday -- 'responding to the response', as it were. It will be posted to the website at about 6:30 am.

While much of the WFP website is subscriber-only, we intentionally left View from the West open to all. Just go to winnipegfreepress.com and click the left-side View tab. The website has a six-month archive of all published View material. Since we have some of the best commentators and experts on a wide range of topics and from across the spectrum, you may find something else of interest there.

Enjoy.

PS. The sidebar to today's front-page news story by Dan Lett on the response to Axworthy's Dear Condi letter -- a sampling of dailykos comments -- is now posted on the website with the story.
