Fabulous Diary

One of the things I try and do on my blog besides giving me a place to rant about stuff I find rantable, is to highlight articles and stories that others who see things the way I do might find interesting. This morning I came across a GREAT piece about a fictional conversation between Jesus and a Bush voter with regards to the pro life stance. Many many Bush voters are single issue voters with the pro life agenda topping their list. The following article pretty much SHREDS any argument they might have supporting it and it does so in a very well written essay. I wanted to post the entire diary here but felt that was taking too large a liberty so to read the whole thing by following the link at the bottom of this post. It was AMAZING and gave me a few more arguments to put in my back pocket for later use in discussions regarding this topic. I highly recommend this, read the whole thing cause it gets even better.

A Christian man sits in a room; he cares about poor people, the environment, world peace etc, all the things that a pious man would care about. Although he disagrees with almost all of his politics, he voted for George Bush because of the abortion issue. Jesus is going to have a talk with him. Jesus is troubled that this man is supporting all that is wrong in the
world.

Jesus comes in and sits down, he is not happy and the man can
tell.

Jesus says, "I've been watching you for a long time, you are a good man, you work hard, you care about poor people, you try to live your life right, all good stuff, what I don't understand is that you voted for the Republicans, these people don't care about poor people, the environment, they don't support any of the things I stand for. How could you of all people vote for them?

"Because I could never vote for someone who isn't "Pro-Life" the man said proudly, thinking that Jesus would be pleased.

Jesus did not look pleased, in fact he looked angry and frustrated.

"Pro Life?" he said

What's Pro Life about starting a war? What's Pro Life about increasing the amount of suffering in the world? I rarely make the choice between right and wrong so easy to see, I cant believe that this administration can start a war on a bunch of lies, kill thousands and thousands of innocent men women and children, and people like you vote for them because they SAY they are PRO LIFE? "

Jesus paused for a moment, then he sighed and said "You are being used like a pawn by the worst elements of our society. People who have no conscience are using your conscience against you. They are doing it with a "Wedge Issue" Its an idea that I came up with, but the Republicans have become experts at it." "They take an issue, say abortion rights, and they research what they need to say to get a group of people to vote for them on that issue. Then they say all the right stuff and it works, people vote for them."

Jesus started to look grim, he said "the problem is, they don't care about the issue
at all, in fact they support abortion, if they didn't they would have done something about it by now." Jesus continued, "What could they possibly be waiting for? For four years they have controlled the Senate, the House of Reps, the White House, and the Supreme Court, The Republicans have nominated 7 of the 9 Justices on the Supreme Court, WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR? They have no intention of stopping abortion because they don't want to pay for any more children (except their own) If you look at their deeds you will see what they really care about, money, power, big corporations, rich people. Not any of the things I teach, you should feel ashamed" Jesus said

The man was upset, he was sure Jesus would approve of his PRO LIFE stance, "but Jesus" the man said "what about all those unborn children? The liberals are not saying they will stop abortions"

Jesus shook his head, he has had this discussion before, "What gave you the idea that these unborn children are more important than the people that are already here?" "The Republicans killed 100,000+ full grown innocent people in Iraq and you voted for them because the say they are PROLIFE? Have you eally...honestly... thought this through?"

There's more ...
