Is America a Democracy?

In a country where there is such a clear religious test to becoming president one has to ask is it really a democracy?

Only one Catholic has ever been elected President and according to at least one article, it is very much in doubt that, if that election were to have occured in a political climate similar to what we have today, John F Kennedy would have become President. Certainly today it seems that no Catholic could be elected, not if the Catgolic Church has anything to say about it anyway. Not sure why the Catholic church wouldn't want a Catholic prez but then again I don't know why the Catholic Church does anything really .... Oh I suppose they would accept a puppet Catholic prez just not an independent one but I digress.

So that leaves several religions that CAN'T be prez ... I'll name a few that are no brainers, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Wiccan, Satanist, (wow can you picture that?) .... I'm startng to draw a blank ... oh yeah and atheist. Jews MIGHT be electable but I am thinkin with things are as they are right now ... ummmm .... no. Women aren't a religious group but I'll include them in my little hypothesis anyway, cause it's my hypoythesis and I can include whoever I want to .... are a maybe as well .... but historically it's been a no. Same for ethnic candidates so far ....

I know in THEORY a qualified canidate representing one of the groups I mentioned could be elected, it's the practice I am challenging here.

That leaves us with white anglo saxon protestant. All the others fail the non existent so called religious litmus test. So I ask you.

Is America truly a Democracy or just an undeclared Theocracy in disguise?
