On Evolution ....

A couple of weeks ago Scientific American Magazine wrote a terrific scathing satirical editorial which quickly made the rounds on the internet. The article is available online here:
Scientific American: Okay, We Give Up
We feel so ashamed
I'm sure the wingers celebrated in style after such a pronouncement .... being wingers and all. But if they did, they did so prematurely because in the very same issue I just read a wonderful article that puts the previously mentioned editorial "(yes I know it was satire) to shame.

Scientific American: The Fossil Fallacy
Creationists' demand for fossils that represent "missing links" reveals a deep misunderstanding of science
I particularily liked the quote mentioned in the article by Herbert Spencer which states:

"Those who cavalierly reject the Theory of Evolution as not being adequately supported by facts, seem to forget that their own theory is supported by no facts at all."

In fact I liked it so much I did a google for Spencer and found the next line which is just as good:
"Like the majority of men who are born to a given belief, they demand the most rigorous proof of any adverse belief, but assume that their own needs none."
If you want to read the entire essay by Spencer where these quotes originate you can do so here It is very enlightening and highlights that this discussion will continue long after we all return to dust. If you are a winger you might like to at least check out the Fossil Fallacy article. If you are even a smidge intellectually honest about your opinions you will find some interesting facts that may give you pause for thought when endorsing your anti evolutionary position in the future.
