I Want to Make Non-Christian Friends

Question:

I have a lot of Christian friends, which I think is important. But I also want to tell non-Christians about Jesus. My problem is I don't have many non-Christian friends. I'm really friendly, but have no idea how to go deeper with those who don't know Christ..

Reply:

I appreciate your zeal and passion to share your faith. When I first became a Christian and started to witness to non-Christians, someone said I needed to "earn the right to be heard." You build relationships with non-Christians just like you do with Christians. Find common interests and areas of their lives where you can relate to them. I've found I can build friendships with non-Christians around hobbies, sports and common passions.

As you develop a deeper friendship with them, sharing your faith will become a natural part of your relationship. If non-Christians believe you are befriending them only to share your faith, they will often not be as interested in what you have to offer them. I ask myself, "What is this non-Christian friend's greatest need? Is it a good listener? Is it a study buddy? Is it simply someone to sit with them at the lunch table?" Many people are open to spiritual things at their point of need. Find their needs and help meet them.

The fact that this person wants to make non christian friends just so she can try and CONVERT them is so coldly calculating and frankly insulting that I am amazed that she could have ANY friends at all. The mindless zombie attitude she displays is the very attitude that I find so repulsive about the radical religious zealots.

Stuff like this REVOLTS me. I am very happy and secure in my disbelief thank you very much. People like me can't STAND people like you. THAT'S why you can't make friends with us. We can see you coming a mile off and we aren't interested in your delusions. To me you are nothing more than a vampiric leech and I don't care how you falsely try and present yourself to the world or to me. You simply cannot be friends with someone who doesn't have any respect for you. It's very apparent you don't have any respect for me or you wouldn't try to convert me and I certainly don't have any for you and your proselytizing so BACK OFF. I have no time for robots like you.

The very idea ... making friends with unbelievers, not because you like them .. not because you share common interests ... but because you want to zombify them ... damn ... I mean just DAMN ... and to advise someone to prey upon someone when they are at their most vulnerable just because they are more OPEN TO SUGGESTION then, is so disgusting it makes me want to scream.
