Seems like the Jackson trial wasn't the pot of gold they hoped it would be.
I'm thinking of throwing them a sympathy party. Waddya think? Should I?
Perhaps I shouldn't call it a sympathy party .... maybe WAKE might be more appropriate.
"This turned out to be a story that didn't even have enough traction to compete with the runaway bride, which blew Michael Jackson off the screen for a week and a half," said Thompson, head of Syracuse University's Center for the Study of Popular Television.Big media was wrong but they still kept pluggin on "like the little engine that could" ... they just KNEW their fortunes were tied to this loser .... forget REAL NEWS, the thing that people USED to tune in to watch, CNN just KNEW that a big name celebrity trial was where it was at NOW.
An early indication of public indifference came when footage aired of Jackson performing an impromptu dance on an SUV's roof after pleading innocent to child-molestation charges in January 2004.
"I was saying to myself, 'Boy, oh boy, I can't wait to see what the numbers are for this thing,' " recalled Jerry Burke, Fox News Channel's daytime executive producer.
But he said the incident didn't rate with viewers, as it turned out. Burke calls the trial itself "turnoff TV" for graphic sexual references and language such as "Jesus juice" as a nickname for wine.
'We were greatly disappointed'
Too bad they were wrong. I'm crying in my hanky. Boo hoo.
Funny thing is they STILL think the trial could have been a winner. If ONLY they had been allowed in the courtroom. THEN people would have tuned in ... just like OJ .. yeah ... that's it .... just like OJ ... "drool"
Damn I can't believe they actually published this piece of media drivel just to make excuses why the Jackson trial didn't pan out for them the way they had hoped it would. If you want to improve your rating's guys I have a piece of advice for ya. REPORT THE NEWS like you're supposed to, like you USED to do and people might tune back in again. Abandon all this newmagazine shit and stike out for a new frontier, separate yourself from the fauxes of the world. Be unique! Be different! Report the news! Think about how refreshing it would be!
*sigh* A world where the jackson trial would only get the air time it deserved ... with a one liner like ... "nothing new to report here ... now in OTHER NEWS .... George W. Bush embarassed the United States once again when he ...."
IA
PS: I thought I'd give honourable mention here to Olberman's closing remarks in the article cause they are such a hoot. I truly think he's the ONLY one on cable news that actually "gets it"
Would cameras have been a courtroom improvement?
"For their (the viewers) psychological and sociological health," Olbermann replied, "I don't think they missed a damn thing."
